High Intensity Supports

High Intensity Supports are specialised NDIS supports for participants with complex health needs who require skilled assistance with daily clinical and personal care activities. These supports are delivered by appropriately trained and competent support workers in accordance with the participant's support plan, clinical recommendations, and NDIS Practice Standards.

Purpose of High Intensity Supports

The purpose of High Intensity Supports is to:

  • Provide safe and effective support for participants with complex health needs.
  • Assist participants to live as independently as possible in their preferred environment.
  • Promote health, comfort, and overall wellbeing.
  • Reduce the risk of complications and hospital admissions.
  • Support participants to achieve their NDIS goals.

What High Intensity Supports Include

Depending on the participant's NDIS plan, individual needs, and clinical requirements, High Intensity Supports may include:

  • Complex bowel care.
  • Enteral feeding and management (PEG feeding).
  • Dysphagia (swallowing) support.
  • Tracheostomy care.
  • Urinary catheter care.
  • Ventilator support.
  • Subcutaneous injections where appropriate.
  • Diabetes management and blood glucose monitoring.
  • Epilepsy and seizure support.
  • Medication assistance in accordance with the participant's support plan.
  • Other high-intensity daily personal activities delivered by trained staff.
